The abuse of adolescents within the family
Researchers: Gwyther Rees, Mike Stein
Funder: NSPCC
Duration: May 1997 - November 1999
Origins and purpose of the review
The report outlines the results of a literature review commissioned by the NSPCC on the subject of the abuse of adolescents in families. Very little has been written specifically on this topic in the UK. However, an international search identified a significant body of literature, especially from the US. The report begins by discussing the possible reasons for the neglect of adolescent abuse in UK writing on child abuse and child protection. It then looks at research evidence from North America and Australia and then the UK context.
