Information Research

YHEC staff are involved in developing the evidence base of information retrieval in systematic reviewing and technology assessment. We have experience in a range of information research skills:        

  • Search filter development and validation. YHEC staff have developed search filters (sets of search terms) to identify randomised controlled trials and systematic reviews       
  • Search filter appraisal and testing. Search filters are essentially diagnostic tests and their performance should be assessed like any other test. We can provide assessments of the quality of search filters and can undertake performance testing. Our recent projects have included an assessment of the performance of search filters to find economic evaluations
  • Analyses of comparative yield of different databases. Identifying the optimum combination of databases to search is a key question in systematic reviewing and HTA. We can provide comparative assessments  
  • Research publication patterns. We carry out research publication analysis.
